Ensembles

We offer a number of opportunities for our students to sharpen their performance skills through ensemble playing. Ensembles include: children's and youth choirs, youth and adult harp ensembles, band classes and chamber music with Academy of Music students and faculty.

Youth and Adult Harp Ensembles

The Academy of Music partners with the American Youth Harp Ensembles to offer harp ensemble opportunities to Academy harp students. The American Youth Harp Ensemble is a nationally and internationally recognized group of students ages five to eighteen that study, rehearse, and perform in ensembles differentiated by their levels of musical proficiency. In addition to the opportunities for youth harpists, the Academy offers adult harp ensemble year round.

Chamber Music

Students have the opportunity to work on chamber music with other Academy students and faculty. Chamber music opportunities exist at all levels for beginning to advanced students. Chamber Music is coached by faculty and adjunct faculty from the Richmond area.

Virginia Choristers

The Virginia Choristers offer an inspirational choral music experience for youth ages six to seventeen. Singers are challenged to attain choral excellence, develop musicianship skills and confidence in their ability to express themselves through the beauty of music. Past seasons have included performances in the Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York in April 2013 and numerous local performances. In 2016, the Choristers will be singing in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.

Academy Band

For students ages 9 and above, Academy Band helps students explore instrument options while establishing a foundation of musical skills and ensemble playing. Performance opportunities are possible. The first class focuses on instrument selection and class overview. Students must bring their own instrument, portable music stand and class book after the first class. Instrument rental or purchasing information is available.
